Dakwäkäda Capital Investments Inc. Board Opportunity

Dakwakada Capital Investments Inc. is a corporation that manages the affairs of Dakwakada Capital Investments Limited Partnership which hold the investments and business assets of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, based in Haines Junction, Yukon.

 The partnership has numerous investments in the Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta and Alaska, primarily in growing sectors, including construction and manufacturing. Other investments include a variety of property holdings with the primary goal being maximizing returns and focusing on private equity investments which include operating companies and real estate.

 

CAFN is seeking applications for current and upcoming vacancies to join the Dakwäkäda Capital Investments Inc. Board of Directors for a term of three years. 

 The following key responsibilities and desired qualifications are what DCI Inc. is looking for in a director.

 Responsibilities:

  • Participation in major decision-making of the businesses.
  • Oversight of business valuations, financial analysis and due diligence processes for potential investment opportunities.
  • Assist with annual and long-term business plans, budgets, cash flow analysis, etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the business.

 Qualifications:

  • Extensive professional experience with corporate management and governance.
  • Experience in the growth and leadership of a business.
  • Senior level experience within financial, investment and risk management.
  • Specific director training, a director designation, or experience acting as a director would be an asset.
  • Personal integrity and credibility.

Preference will be given to CAFN Citizens and candidates that have the specific skills requested.

Position Summary

We are currently seeking Journeyperson Glaziers to join our Commercial team. This position will report to the Supervisor or Manager of our Commercial division and work with other Installers on various projects in and around Whitehorse. Succession candidates will be required to reside in the Whitehorse area.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assemble, erect and dismantle scaffolds, rigging and hoisting equipment
  • Install, fit, fabricate and attach architectural metals or related substitute products in commercial and residential buildings
  • Prepare and install skylights and other special glass in commercial and institutional establishments
  • Repair and service commercial aluminum doors and other glass supporting structures, and replace damaged glass or faulty sealant
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Site measures and surveys for field dimensions
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Journeypersons require trade certification from a recognized institution;
  • Valid Driver’s License;
  • Willingness and ability to train and mentor junior staff;
  • Aptitude for math, measuring and the use of power/hand tools;
  • Ability to read construction drawings;
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills;
  • Experience working in a construction environment would be an asset

Key Responsibilities

This position is an integral part of the senior leadership team, working closely with the President, Operations Manager and Financial Controller to execute current projects and identify future opportunities. Your work will focus on:

  • The provision of Civil Engineering design services for public and private developments
  • Overseeing all aspects of construction project management:
  • Developing scope of work and project schedules
  • Managing billing and monthly progress payments
  • Sourcing required materials and regular monitoring of supply chain to mitigate any potential delays or impacts to project progress.
  • Working with subcontractors to monitor invoicing and ensure contract compliance.
  • Navigating available bid opportunities and submitting project tenders, proposals and take-offs.
  • Collaborating closely with the Operations Manager, Foremen and Superintendents to ensure projects are on schedule and going to plan.

Qualifications + Experience

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, registered as a professional engineer, and extensive experience in construction monitoring and inspecting activities on large civil projects or, an equivalent combination of education and experience, including limited license.
  • Experience submitting large-scale project bids including the preparation of tenders.
  • Experience analyzing potential issues and developing solutions to mitigate impacts.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specification, codes and standards.
  • Sound judgement, excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving and prioritizing skills to anticipate and assess situations and determine best solution or course of action.
  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to partner with and influence stakeholders.

  • Must be physically fit and willing to work hands on in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions

Class 1 & 3 Truck Drivers

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ driving experience with clean drivers abstract.
  • Clean drivers abstract provided with application
  • Must be reliable and in good physical condition
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Heavy hauling experience and the ability to self-load are considered assets
  • Valid First Aid certificate is an asset

Labour

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must be physically fit and willing to work hands on in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License with reliable transportation.

Pipelayer

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years water/sewer pipe experience.

  • Valid First Aid ticket is an asset.
  • Valid Confined Space ticket is an asset.

Surveyor

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ experience as a surveyor.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of surveying equipment and instruments
  • Detail oriented with the ability to read and comprehend construction plans and keep redline on a project.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be reliable, in good physical condition and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License with reliable transportation.
  • Background in road or water + sewer construction is an asset
